Individual Career Counseling

Guiding you through career exploration and transitions.

I offer career and personality interest assessments, specifically the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) and the Strong Interest Inventory (STRONG), as part of individual career counseling, as well as on their own for individuals 16 years old and up.

For those interested in taking just the MBTI and/or the STRONG, but not doing any individual career counseling sessions, here's what the process will look like:

We'll meet for an intake interview, so we can get clear on what you're wanting/needing, as well as give you an overview of the assessment(s). Between the first and second session, you'll take one or both of the assessments (MBTI and STRONG). During the second session, we'll discuss the results. Often times, a third session is needed to continue discussing the results as both the MBTI and STRONG are very comprehensive assessments and it's important to not rush this discussion.

*Please note: I will not be able to email the results of either of these assessments to you without a thorough conversation about the results. Thank you for your understanding!

*Please note: I do not provide mental health counseling for things like anxiety and depression. I only offer individual career counseling and career assessments. Also, the individual career counseling I provide is for individuals 16 years old and up.

If you're a junior or senior in high school, and college is on the table, you may be wondering - "Where should I go to school?" and "What should I major in?" You may be a young adult, who's currently in college, and asking yourself - "What am I going to do after graduation?" and "Did I choose the right major?" Maybe you're an adult who's been in the workforce for awhile and have noticed an undercurrent of job dissatisfaction. You may be considering a mid-career pivot, but unsure of where to start. Wherever you're at, career counseling is a beautiful opportunity to address these questions now before you get further down the road with no more clarity than you have right now.

To start this journey together, we'll meet for an intake session where we'll review your intake form and chat about what's bringing you in. I'll also share an overview of our specific program services. Then, as you're ready, we'll move into the assessment phase where you'll take the Myers-Briggs Type Inventory (MBTI) and Strong Interest Inventory (STRONG), as well as some self-assessments that I'll prepare you to take. This stage is really fun and will give you a lot of great information about your preferences, interests and strengths, and what's important to you. By the way, these are all secret ingredients in choosing a satisfying and fulfilling career path. Next, we'll flow into the creative phase of the process which I like to call the casting a wide net and generating options stage. Here, you'll identify various career prospects to learn more about and we'll do some initial goal-setting together. I'll give you an overview of some well-known resources that you can use to research your career options more in-depth. Then, we'll put our heads together and consider how well each occupation aligns with your unique personality, interests, strengths, work values, etc. The next (and last stage for some) will include revisiting your action plan that we created while doing the initial goal-setting and including specific actions needed to obtain your chosen occupation. If you're a student, we'll work backwards and this will inform any questions you have around choosing a college major. This is where career exploration for older high school students and some young adults will usually end.

For some young adults and adults participating in individual career counseling, we'll move on to consider the specific educational and training requirements that you'll need to meet in order to move forward with your career decision, as well as refining your action plan to include specific steps you'll need to take to obtain these educational/training requirements. Finally, we'll land on the last phase of the process where we'll discuss helpful job-search strategies to assist you in securing employment in your chosen career, as well as professional supports that you might want to consider.

If all of this sounds good and you're ready to start your journey towards self-discovery and career alignment, then go to the "Contact" page and send me a message. I can't wait to hear from you!
